It’s that time of year again. Summer time! Time to relax and pick up a good book.

But how to find that perfect read?

Start by checking out this year’s FHPS Media Summer Reading List, where we’ve listed a total of 60 titles for readers of all ages.

For a smaller download, select the Summer Reading List 2015 in PDF format.

If you'd like the interactive version, which includes audio and video, download either the Summer Reading List 2015 Interactive PDF or the Summer Reading List 2015 EPUB file. This will take more time to access, but once downloaded you will have the interactive capabilities.

Whether you choose a book from our list, or find one on your own, we’d like to know about it. Send us a Tweet or post a picture to Instagram. Use the hashtag #fhpsreads. All summer participants will be entered in a drawing to win a gift card from Schuler Books.

And remember, a large number of the titles listed are available from the FHPS Media Center’s Overdrive collection!

When you visit any of our media centers, please take a moment to introduce yourselves to the staff.  We may be behind the desk, shelving books, or otherwise busy. . . but we are happy to stop and help you.  We love to talk about the new books we're reading, reference resources available, or how to use Overdrive.

During the first week of October, ten heavy boxes of Chinese language books arrived at Northern Trails.  These fiction, non-fiction, and biography books are the beginning of the Chinese section of the NT media center.  The pioneer Chinese Immersion class of 33 fifth graders enthusiastically helped open the boxes.

Aurasma uses augmented reality technology to help bring books to life. You can experience it for yourself in the FHPS high school media centers!

Aurasma is a free IOS or android app that uses your device’s camera to recognize real world images and then overlay rich media on top of them in the form of animations, videos, 3D models and web pages.

The media center is using Aurasma to overlay video book trailers on top of book covers. In other words, you can aim your device at a book cover and watch a short video book trailer.

Simply download Aurasma from the app store to your device. Open the app, search for and follow the “fhpsmedia” channel. Then you can aim your device at a trigger image, which are mostly book covers in our media centers, and the cover will magically transform into a video book trailer or another related video. To find books that work with Aurasma, simply look for the Aurasma logo on a book’s spine.

There are also other trigger images not tied to books throughout the media center. Some are educational, while others are there just for fun. Just look for the Aurasma logo and give it a try.

Take a look at the short video above for another explanation as to how it all works. And have fun!

Thanks to the incredible artistic talents of two Forest Hills high school students, FHPS Media has a new logo! Recent Eastern grad Kailey D and current Central high school student Christine R took our challenge and turned it into something special.

Last year, when we unveiled our new website, this was our logo:

We decided that we wanted something new and original, so we approached our high school art classes with an idea. The student who could come up with the best new logo design for FHPS Media would see their creation on our website. As if that wasn’t enough, we also offered a small monetary prize.

We were looking for a fresh design that melded traditional with 21st century learning. We had several excellent entries from our three high schools, but were particularly impressed with the works of Kailey and Christine. In fact, we liked them both so much that we asked them to work together to combine their logos.

Fortunately for us, they agreed, and their collaborative efforts resulted in our brand new FHPS Media logo. You can find it on our website as well as on our social media sites.

Thanks Kailey and Christine!

If you survive this book review, go read If We Survive by Andrew Klavan. It’s a great book that will appeal mostly to adventure and action book lovers, but mystery fans might get a kick out of it too.  If We Survive has a brilliant story line and will leave you thinking back on it over and over again. And if you're anything like me it will stay with you for a long time. Andrew Klavan really lets you get to know the characters very well. You start to feel like they're your best friends. This book is most definitely going on my favorites list!

And if you liked “If We Survive.”  Look for Andrew Klavan’s other books “The Last Thing I Remember”,  “Nightmare City”, “Crazy Dangerous” and“ A Killer In The Wind”.

(If you don't have a favorite book list start one! They are a lot of fun and you can look back on books and see how much your favorite genres have changed!)
